How is this for a slogan/motto: "Dare to be free"

Too corny or just right? If we were to create an ad, I think this would be a great line to have said at the end, or included in the bottom-right-hand corner of our logo once we decide upon our name.

Refinements and/or suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,
SamFisher47

Dare to be free sounds like a good slogan. It isn't corny, only because it is Linux, so it fits in perfectly. On the same note, what about something like "Dare to explore?"

Haha, good idea! We could keep the "Dare to" and add on things at the end to promote what we need.

For example:
General Linux freedom: Dare to be free
Automatic secure wireless setup: Dare to roam
Free automatic updates: Dare to connect (be connected)
Different themes, windows manager, desktop effects: Dare to experiment

etc, etc.

Not a bad idea. In the future, there may be a Dare To menu, like Yast has everything in it, now we could have Dare To.

Yes, indeed that would be good... it flows nicely with almost everything. If anyone has any more ideas/modifications, please post!

Just a thought. What if our distro was called Dare To Linux? It could be DTL, and fits with our ideas of programs?

Hmmm, it is an interesting idea: we could leave that as our beta name if everyone else agrees. Although, I do think that when we release a final distribution, we should have a single-word, easy-to-remember name for the average desktop user, much like Windows' recent naming scheme (ME, XP, Vista and the upcoming beta-release Vienna).

Do you think that is alright?

I remember a while back when Novell was having a contest for a slogan and naturally I thought of one way too late. "Make it what you want it to be" , based on the idea that you could do anything you wanted to with Linux. No Idea whether that fits in with the concept for your project, but I just thought I'd toss it out for what it's worth.

maybe sth. like "Fits your computer" or some kind of variation? meaning that it goes well or makes it go faster...

No problems, no errors, just your free Desktop!

EDIT: maybe as name for the project Babylonor Babel (Linux)? as we are from different places all around the world, and hopefully we would have ppl all around the world???

I know it's Latin, but "Harmonia", meaning Harmony.

Harmony of software.
Harmony of hardware.
Harmony on your desktop. (Finally)
Harmony of users.

Just makes sense to me.

Very nice Sorivenul! Very Happy

What do people think about using the name 'Harmonia', at least while we're in beta?

I was thinking of maybe the name of a Greek philosopher. Like Socrates or Plato or something like that. I just think that sounds kind of cool.

Some other ideas:
-Semplice (Italian for Simple)
-Plato (famous Greek philosopher)
-Propensity (a word here that means "something that acts like what it is")
Just a few ideas.

And a slogan idea:
"Dare.Create.Innovate."
