I was thinking of including Amarok in our distribution. I had posted this in the gnome section, but I wanted to go heavily into it here (this is also one of my favorite Linux programs). Amarok can manage Ipods, has Last.fm support, built in Wikipedia, lyrics, visuals, and a site similar to Itunes stores. It also supports radio, user mods, and streams. You can read up on it here. Let me know your thoughts:

It looks nice and support for iPods is a must! What we need is to find some skins that will blend with our theme, but otherwise, Amarok gets a +1 from me!

it won't be hard. All the images come in their own folder, and are fully replaceable. I'm on Opensuse now, and they have added their logo to it, so it is rather easy.

Would you be able to edit the post to look like the post here for Transmission?
Code:
http://desktop-linux.org/forum/bittorrent-client-transmission-t44.html

Just for some consistency Razz

Edit: One thing that irks me about Amarok in the default theme is having to turn my head sideways to read the panel names Sad lol

Also, would we be able to customise Amarok so that users do not have to go through that annoying "which database would you like to use? MySQL, SQLite, etc" because our target audience (average desktop users) would have no clue about these things.

Oh and people converting from Linux will have no idea about Linux directory structures so when asked to located their music (especially if it is mounted as NTFS under /media) will have troubles Very Happy Perhaps we could implement a music search wizard or similar?

Thanks

Amarok is good for KDE, but what about Gnome? I know that Banshee and Rhythmbox are very user-friendly, not to mention the extensions that you can install for each.

Lol, I know what you mean. It's sort of funny, people leave Windows because of security, customizing, etc, and I left entirely for Amarok Very Happy. Anyways, I suppose Rythembox will be best for Gnome as default.

Amarok is the best music player going imho, don't know if its because of ubuntu or not' but it defaults to sqlite and tells you that it is acceptable to leave it that way then searches for installed music libraries.
I think it should be a default install in kde and gnome

Is Amarok fully compatible with Gnome? It seems more KDE-like.

It was designed for KDE, but it runs well on Gnome. I have never had it crash there.

I fully support Amarok on KDE.

I would use Exaile on Gnome. It is quite similar to Amarok, but is GTK.

Yeah, sorry that was a duplicate question.

I've used Amarok before, and it seemed great. The only problem was that it didn't support my mp3 player. But that was a long time ago, so it probably does now. Maybe it should be included in both KDE and Gnome, but I'm not sure if it should be Gnome's default.

Amarok's new version updated a lot of their mp3 players. Also, it wouldn't be default. It would be an officially supported add-on, instead of requiring you to install the RPM manually (or DEB).
