I've currently paused work on the LFS project until tomorrow due to the current weather in Australia. For the past few days, it has been 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees farenheit) and above! My computer has been overheating so I will be continuing with LFS as soon as temperatures return to normal levels (most likely by Wednesday).
I'll keep you guys updated! _________________ --SamFisher47

That's no problem, there is no hurry anyway. It's rather interesting though, its only about 50 degrees Fahrenheit here . _________________

I'm guessing that's due to the hemisphere you're in |

I've resumed the build process today with an additional fan installed in the computer and the airconditioning on However, it is a rather cool day today so it doesn't really tomorrow. I should be able to upload it by tonight. However, I need to know where to upload _________________ --SamFisher47

Sourceforge might be a good choice, but I'm not really good at knowing where to upload. Most of my downloads come from rapidshare and megaupload. _________________

Same for me, but since the iso is expected to be ~500mb plus, it might be difficult for people to download off rapidshare or megaupload
I'm currently building the master cd, which will probably take some time, so please bear with me. However, it is mainly automated, so it is going along smoothly _________________ --SamFisher47

Well, the alternative is that we could directly host it on our site the same way the rest of the site is built. I can just add your fill on our FTP site, and we could download it like a regular server, but I don't know what that would do to our bandwidth. _________________

| It shouldn't get hit too hard if you ask who wants to test to run it, then PM the link, rather than give guests access as well |

+1 to that, though I don't know what our current bandwidth limits are. I'm in for a test run as I've said before. |

I guess the thing to do is that I'll set up a "Downloads" section, and make it viewable only to registered members, that way, we won't get guests downloading it too. Even though we have 20 members, only a handful are ever on much, so I guess by the time everyone has downloaded it, our bandwidth will have reset, and be fine. What do you guys think? _________________

The LFS system is ready to be uploaded.
However, I spent some quality time on #LFS-support and the views of some experienced LFS builders there were quite interesting.
From my discussion with them, here are the main points of what I picked up:
*LFS is made to be a custom distro for yourself. It is not meant to be given to other people and used. When you build, it is specifically for your hardware, so when someone else attempts to install it on their machine, they must manually edit the fstab and network settings to suit their hardware setup.
*If we are trying to build a distro that caters to the average desktop user, it would be easier and more efficient.
Two of the recommended distributions to start from were:
*Debian/Ubuntu (but preferably Debian so it is like starting over)
*Gentoo/Sabayon (purely because of the complete customisability of Gentoo and the cleanliness of Portage) _________________ --SamFisher47

| I think most of us will be fine with editing an fstab here, Sam. Like we said, this would be a test. I know there are plenty of distros out there based on LFS systems, most notably Yoper, which is an excellent system in itself. Keep us posted on other potential problems, but I think most of us are anxious for an upload. |

Well it by itself may not be able to adapt to new hardware, but I'm sure we can fix that with additions to it. _________________

The editing of an fstab is fine for us, but not for the users we are targeting. However, I am looking into Yoper, which uses "Knoppix hardware recognition technology" (which I know to be excellent as I use Knoppix to recover my computer from all Windows errors ), so I'll get back to you on that. If anyone knows more information about it, please post here.
Also, please note that I have updated my post above. I personally prefer to begin from Gentoo if we abandon LFS. I'm still awaiting a space to upload my current LFS system though.
Thanks for all your patience! _________________ --SamFisher47
